Thinking about moving yourself?

You may think that moving yourself will be more economical than hiring a professional mover, you may be wrong. Movers currently are offering big discounts on interstate moves. An average move from Connecticut to Florida can cost less than $2000. Renting a truck and the expenses that go with it can certainly be more than that.

Big muscles are a must!
Moving a house full of furniture is hard work. You can easily be injured by lifting and carrying heavy items like refrigerators and dressers. Usually they have to be carried and maneuvered up or down stairways and through doorways. If you can manage to get the dresser to the truck, can you do it with out putting a hole in the wall or taking a gouge out of the molding. Before making your decision to rent a truck, you may want to give it a try with one dresser (then imagine doing that all day). If you can find a few buddies who agree to give you a hand on moving day (hopefully they will show up) you may be liable for any injuries they may incur, such as a strained back. Take a close look at the brochure the rental company gave you...everyone is carrying empty boxes and smiling! Will your boxes be empty or full? (Will you be smiling too?)

WARNING:  Use caution when choosing movers from the Internet. Many sites advertise movers without checking their credentials. Companies who transport household goods within the state of CT are licensed and regulated by the Department of Transportation.  Interstate moving companies that move goods between states are licensed and regulated by the Federal Highway Administration’s Office of Motor Carriers. The licensing requirements and regulations implemented by these agencies provide numerous protections for consumers. Always choose a licensed and insured mover. Learn more.
